Things Which Make a Wine Heavy

This article was written as a response to the question: What causes a wine to be "heavy"?
Wines are popular in different parts of the world. France, Italy, Spain and USA are the major producers of wine. In the list of wines some are heavy while the others are light. The heavy wines are formed due to certain elements. The article speaks about the composition of heavy wines.

Different types of wines are consumed by people all over the world. Some people prefer light wines. Some people prefer heavy wines.

A wine that is heavy has very concentrated levels of tannins, alcohols, acidity, or extracts. Wine actually is prepared from fermented fruit juice. The major fruit which contributes in wine making is grapes.

Yeast uses the sugar in the grapes and its fermentation leads to creation of wines. The different varities of grapes which are useful includes Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Gamay. Generally wines are also classified based on locations.

European wines are classified on the basis of region. On the other hand Non-European wines are classified on the basis of the types of grapes.  For example Pinot Noir and Merlot are two varieties of wines which are named from the types of pinot noir grapes and merlot grapes.

Sometimes wines are also called Vintage wines based on the history of the place where it was grown for generations. Those places become important in history due to the growth of the wines.

France, Italy, Spain, USA are the largest producers of wine all across the world. Moderate and low consumption of wine is beneficial for health where as large consumption of wine leads to heart diseases and heart failures.

Wines contain polyphenols, anti-oxidants and flavonoids which are useful for the human body. Certain varieties of red wines also contain procyanidines.

Some of the wines are very heavy like Cabernate Sauvignon. It is one form of red wine. Generally heavy wines have 81% water, 12% alcohol and the rest of other elements. The rest of the elements make it heavy. There is a huge list in respect of them. It starts from sugars, then grape thuamatin including proteins and amino acids, vitamins, sodium, calcium, iron magnesium, phosphorus, zinc, copper and other elements. There are also tannins, bioflavonoids and flavonoids.

Red Zinfandel is a heavy wine. These wines can be taken along with heavy food like pasta or tomato-oriented food and sauces. Along with the categorization of heavy wines sometimes the people call them according to the taste they serve. Generally white wines are lighter while the red wines are heavier.

Generally wine also becomes complete with the food that the person consumes. For example the red meat that is served in different restaurants all over the world including mutton, beef and pork goes very well with red wine and heavy wines. Without them the taste of the wine remains incomplete. The people should have knowledge about the type of wine they want to consume and then order the wine.

Wine in small proportions is harmless. Any person can try it. Only large concentration of the same can cause complications.
